On the other day I was fooling around in one of those famous blogs with a million followers, and read something about rights reservation: the content should not be reproduced without expressed permission of the author. So far, so good. But when I clicked on the X to close the page I wondered: «Content? What content?»

Vamos lá despachar isto, que eu quero ir ser feliz | Let's get this over with, because I want to go be happy

Posso mudar-me?

I have some pre-conceived ideas about the work world in Portugal, and particularly I don’t identify myself with some of its features (I could tell you about the dictatorial leadership, but this is not the protagonist of this post). Over a decade ago, the expression "having a meeting" sounded good to me: it exuded professionalism, it was a sign of a career, in a certain extent it made me feel part of a decider group, and those give any professional the loan of power and safety. Over the years, "having a meeting" gained other meanings, such as annoyance, earning a headache, questioning my labor choices and fighting my mental demons who, as others speak, make me pay attention to everything, except to their verbal content.

Unfortunately I have no way to escape them, and this week I was given the pleasure of having a 3 hours and a half meeting on Monday, another 2 hours and a half meeting on Tuesday, and another one of 3 hours yesterday. The drama, the horror, the consternation!!! Would someone please let me work? Dear leaders, did no one ever told you that after 1h your partner loses focus? Are you so unhappy at home, that you need to have me us as a company, only to validate yourselves?

No wonder that in the more developed and industrialized countries, meetings are standing: they are direct, well planned, with measurable targets, they avoid large presentations and always start on time. Can I move there?

Desculpem interromper: tenho uma questão | Sorry to interrupt: I have a question

I’ve already stated here a few times that my memory is like the one of a fish, so forgive me my confusion and the fact that I’m a little lost in time. I just wanted to ask: in what day will be the holiday this week?

À parte disso, a história é densa, é sincera, é simples, é bonita, e a interpretação convincente.

I didn’t translate this post because it has to do with a cultural and entertainment programme in Portugal. Please come back here some other time. Thank you. .¸¸.*

O teu inebriante abraço | Your enthralling embrace

I know you’d like me to be more like you. I know that you yearn for me to visit you and gossip about my day. I know it hurts you when I dwell in silence, without being able to tell you about my life. I know its scares you that I became a very different woman from what you taught me to be. I know you long to hear me asking you to cook some meat or fish for me. But I also know that you know that these things will not happen, that you have given up hope, and that you now live in good fellowship with my style, so different from yours. When I was younger I would ask you to get some friends, to go out more often; I wouldn’t like you to undervalue yourself in favour of your family. I needed space to grow up; I didn’t want to be asphyxiated in your embrace. I used to tell my friends that you were a chicken mom, and they retorted that theirs also were it. But when they knew you, they’d say you really were the biggest chicken mom on Earth. On high school all my friends knew you, and whenever I meet them on the street nowadays, they still remember your affection. I always laughed about this, even when I’d accuse you of being the dullest mom on Earth. I still do, and you smile, because you know it’s true. The funniest fact is that, if one day I become a mother, I have no pretensions but to be just like you.

Um balão. Um suspiro. Uma esperança. | A baloon. A sigh. A hope.

If you hadn’t died, tomorrow would the first Mother's Day for me to live the true meaning of it, the true meaning of the expression and the date. It would be wonderful continuing to feel two hearts beating inside of me: one in my chest, another one faster in my womb. But you drifted away. And soon after left someone else, from whom I don’t even know the gender. To mark the date, some mothers with the empty lap will meet tomorrow to launch balloons in the sky, depositing hope on the infinite, giving notice that they haven’t forgotten the ones who left too soon. I haven’t forgotten you. I’ll never forget. The tears that fall when no one’ s seeing feed my memory of you. If you hadn’t died, I was unaware of this event and ignored the pain of these mothers. But now I cry it every day. Forgive me, but tomorrow I won’t launch balloons. Putting them in the air would materialize your departure, and I still have hope that one day I’m going to wake up and realize that you're still in me, alive, that doctors hadn’t given up trying to save you. Maybe this is just a nightmare, and I don’t want to throw balloons into the air. I don’t want to let you go away.

A tua mão na minha | Your hand in mine

Meu caro(a) amigo(a),

My dearest friend,

Whenever we meet on the street, even if you’re very pleased to find me, greet me with a smile and excuse yourself from shaking my hand. If you feel compelled to do so, please avoid it. Maybe, in a courtesy gesture, I’ll shake your hand back, but I'll do it unwilling. And it’s not worth to try talking to me, once I’ll not hear a word; while you’re holding me back, please believe I’ll be desperate to find a toilet, in which I can quickly sanitize my hand up to the elbow. I will be imagining that your hand was touching some secluded parts of your body, and I don’t take any pleasure sharing it. I'll think that you may have stopped in traffic to free your nose from mucus, probably with your right index finger, which is always the most used in this everyday task. I will consider that you have been entertained with your partner in unusual activities this morning, and that you probably haven’t washed your hands since. I'll remember that environmental audit report made to the plastic coating of the railing of escalators in that shopping center, and remind that there were identified seven distinct qualities of semen (and the railing had been disinfected in the cleaning at 06.30a.m.). I'll chew over the possibility of you trading money, and think that you could have even spit on your fingers to help separating the bills. I’ll picture you using that pen that that government agency provides to all taxpayers who go there.

I have a fertile imagination, and when it comes to other people’s bacteria, my ingenuity spreads more than microorganisms.

You, my friend, chose where you put your hands. Please also give me the leeway of choosing it.

Yours truly,
R. del Piño

A flor e a gotinha | The flower and the little drop

– reiterou a pequena gota!
– chorou a flor!
– indagou a ténue gota.
Ele fazia sentir-me tão especial… Dizia que eu era a flor mais bonita, tocava-me delicadamente e eu sentia-me realmente única. – explicou a flor.
*******– E o que aconteceu depois? Desapareceu? – questionou a gotinha.

*******Its beauty gleamed under the brilliance of dew, but if it shivered, it was not because of cold. Its heart was icy with abandonment, thirsty after the loss that seemed hopeless.
*******A small and slippery drop of rain landed on its colorful leaves and asked cuttingly:
*******- Why are you crying? Why are you trying to appeal for the other flowers pity with a feigned pain?
*******Further hurt, the flower replied:
*******- Who are you to judge what I feel? Are you my friend? If you’re not, I don’t have to trust in you…
*******- Sorry, I just assumed that a flower doesn’t have reasons to cry! You are very beautiful, splendorous and everyone admires you! – the little drop apologized.
*******- Everyone judges for what they see, and not for what is behind a look...
*******- But I’ve already apologized. - restated the little drop! – Can you now tell me why you're so sad?
*******- Because I knew the pain of loss, and I feel wilt with weakness ... - cried the flower!
*******- What are you talking about? I don’t understand anything. - asked the fainted drop.
*******- Has anyone ever told you «I loveyou»?
*******- No, and I don’t even know its meaning!
*******- Someone has told me that! There was a gardener, a young gardener, who found me and showered me. With the strength of his affection, my leaves have gained a whole new color and brightness, and everyday seemed sunny days. He made me feel so special... He said I was the most beautiful flower, touched me gently and I felt really unique. - explained the flower.
*******- And what happened next?  Did he disappear? - questioned the droplet.
*******- He still shows up to shower me. But I don’t think he’s doing it affectionately any longer. His conscience would weigh if he let let me die from lack of watering, but he doesn’t offer me the truly gift of life for a while! He doesn’t’ say he loves me anymore; and he doesn’t make me feel special now.
*******When the flower finished, the small drop has already been absorbed by it! The droplet believed it could nourish the flower a little, though it also realized many more drops would be needed.
*******When another delicate drop landed on its leaves, the flower asked:
*******- Why do people make us get used to love and friendship, if they do not intend to shower their affections for the rest of their lives, making others feel how much it hurts to lose what they once promised them?

1 de maio de 2013

Agenda para o dia | Agenda for the day

Note to self: usar calçado confortável.

12h09: Pôr a comida na mesa e sentar-me.

8.00 a.m.: Try not to give up to the cyclic behavior of chronobiology, and continue in bed just a little longer.

8.15 a.m.: Appeal to the complacency of Sebastião and Rafa -- who have realized that I'm already awake –- in order to avoid their wonderful and cute noses laid beside me, convincing me to get up.

8.23 a.m.: Giving in to the dog’s whims, and put my feet out of bed immediately.

8.37 a.m.: After washing my face, go to the kitchen to prepare a good breakfast and enjoy it under the sun. St. Peter, be a buddy, yes?

9:19 a.m.: Turn on the computer and check out what’s going on in the blogosphere.

10.03 a.m.: Bathe, moisturize the skin, detangle, moisturize the hair, dry the hair, moisturize the face, spread a good primer, camouflage the dark circles around the eyes, cover with BB Cream and compact powder, try to make a perfect eyeliner, comb the eyebrows, and put on some intense black mask on the eyelashes.

10.59 a.m.: Pick the clothing for the day. Note to self: wear comfortable shoes.

11.14 a.m.: Start peeling the potatoes. How many will be needed for 7 adults and 1 child?

11.30 a.m.: Put the potatoes into the electric fryer, and start cooking rice.

11.47 a.m.: Yell Call J., tell him that he should have already set the table, try not to get angry when he tells to calm down, and ask for him to go buy chicken barbecue for the guests.

12.05 p.m.: Receive the guests and get them seated.

12.09 p.m.: Bring the food to the table and sit down.

12.10 p.m.: Remember I’ve not cooked for myself, hasten to the fridge, unpack two slices of tofu that were being tempered since yesterday, and put them on the grill.

12.13 p.m.: Opening the doors for the guests not to complain about the smoke from the grill.

12.21 p.m.: Sit down and finally eat the tofu with the rice and potatoes that have cooled meanwhile.

13.02 p.m.: Say goodbye to the 3 guests that are going to depart before the others. Give a big kiss to my niece and ask her to behave well.

13.07 p.m.: Pick up the dishes.

13.11 p.m.: Put the dirty dishes in the wash machine.

13.17 p.m.: Split the leftover bones into two equal parts, mix them in with feed, put them on the floor and avoid a diplomatic incident between the dogs from the house.

13.31 p.m.: Sit a little, while guests drink coffee.

14.06 p.m.: Put everyone in the car and head to Espinho.

14.43 p.m.: Curse the city, because one can never find a good spot to park.

14.57 p.m.: Go to the place of the fashion show and find a comfortable place to sit.

15.19 p.m.: Get up, stretch the legs, ask J. if he has everything prepared, start getting anxious.

15.39 p.m.: Look at the clock and wish that time flies.

16:11 p.m.: Curse the fact that in Portugal nothing ever starts at the scheduled time.

16.28 p.m.: Spot my niece on the catwalk, get up, clap enthusiastically, whistle in delight, and realize everyone around is looking at me.

16.29 p.m.: Continue clapping -- as if there was no tomorrow -- to that girly-girl of four years-old, who makes me proud of her professionalism at the catwalk.

17.01 p.m.: Realize that everything went very fast.

17.04 p.m.: Hasten to the backstage to give a huge hug to the hottest chick I know, grope her ass, ask her who's the most beautiful girl in the world, hear her say "I am" and reply “no, I am”.

17.14 p.m.: Convince the family to go eat something on the beachfront.

17.22 p.m.: Dang my idea of going so close to the sea, try walking getting a glimpse through the curls which flew with the wind up in front of my eyes, enter a quiet place and get pleased about the temperature in the inside.

17.49 p.m.: Understand the holiday is coming to an end and return home.

18:36 p.m.: Change clothes, put on my sneakers, put the leash in Sebastião and Rafa, connect the iPod and go for a walk.

18.54 p.m.: Try not to venture through unknown paths and realize too late that I'm far from home.

19.29 p.m.: Try not to complain about the feet.

19.33 p.m.: Arrive at home, and bless the moment I get barefoot. Enjoy a few minutes of “nothing”.

20.11 p.m.: Ask J. if he wants to have dinner, leading him to conclude to only eat some soup.

20.30 p.m.: Have dinner and eat some fruit.
